Looking for someone to break that sound apart and remix it into submission?

Sometimes, one version of that track is not enough. Sometimes, you want the song to work on several different levels, or several different dancefloors. Sometimes, you just want the song to take a trip to the dark side. Well, that’s where the remix comes in.
In a world where songs need to be enjoyed in lots of different places, consider moulding them yourself rather than have them mangled without your knowledge.
Matt has been remixing songs into various shapes under his DJ moniker (bside) for a long time now and takes pleasure in shoehorning sounds into boxes they were never meant to fit into.
House, techno, drum and bass, trip hop, ambient – whatever style you like, there’s always some way that he can smoosh your sounds into shape.
DUDE DISCO – Facemeat
(bside’s 9 Minutes
on Fire Island Remix)
Facemeat are a large format, Sydney based, organic noise organising machine who wanted a selection of remixes for their just-released album but probably weren’t prepared for me taking the word “disco” quite that literally – although you never can tell with those blokes.

SWEETNESS & LIGHT
– Itch-E & Scratch-E
(bside Remix)
Formidable, ARIA winning Sydney dance act Itch-E & Scratch-E have kept the dancefloor humming since the early nineties, and being a dancefloor denizen from way back, a couple of years ago, I requested the original stems of this classic track so I could bring it up to date in an unofficial remix. I have since heard from them that they like it – which is much more than I could ask for!

BAXWBAKWALANUKSIWE
– Serious Beak
(bside’s Ambient Wash Remix)
Another fine Sydney band, Serious Beak released what was my favourite album of the year in “Huxwhukw” – a fantastic instrumental prog, metal, sludge journey into the collective minds of four very talented blokes. When they put the word out for remixes, I was right onto it. The track eventually didn’t end up getting onto the remix album in the end, but I was extremely happy with the results and managed to do the artwork for the remix package anyway!

PAPUA NEW GUINEA
– Future Sound of London
(bside’s Almost Dub Remix)
A dance classic of the highest order, given an unauthorised rub by me, hopefully with as much respect as possible to the highly regarded original.
